What is the front-end?

So what is front end development exactly? It usually refers to websites or applications, but an analogy with another piece of tech can make it easier to understand. Take your laptop or PC, for example: the keyboard, display, touchpad, any other buttons and lights you can interact with – that’s the front end. Your hard drive, video card and other hardware components are the back end. You don’t have an interface on the device to directly use it, but it supports the front end and makes it work.
